Environmental protection forms an integral part of the P & T Contracts’ business activity which is described in our scope of works below. I am committed to protecting the environment and believe that my Company has a responsibility not to compromise the ability of future generations to sustain their needs.

OUR SCOPE OF WORKS
The works carried out are road and street works (including tarmac laying using our own equipment), drainage, paving, kerbing and hard standings, car park and footpath construction, all for industrial, commercial, transport (including road and rail) and domestic customers
The impact that any of our activities, those of our clients, sub-contractors and suppliers may have on the environment is an area that is subject to our management to ensure that we comply with current environmental legislation.

I am committed to preventing pollution and specifically to protecting the environment, with reference to those aspects of work activities that are environmentally significant that are impacted by our business activities.

I will seek to reduce our consumption of non-renewable resources, and whenever practicable, will select materials which have the least negative impact on the environment throughout their life cycle, and will endeavour to recycle our own plant and materials as far as reasonably practicable.

I will seek to minimise the environmental impact for the life-cycle of all plant, equipment and other physical assets under our control (including their ultimate disposal).

I am committed to compliance with environmental and associated legislation and will apply best practice requirements relevant to our scope of works that will compliment and enhance our compliance procedures. Eg best practice from transport infrastructure.

Environmental protection will have equal status to considerations for health, safety and quality management.

In confirming our commitment to protection of the environment we will treat environmental regulations that apply to our activities as minimum standards and where appropriate aim to better them. We will provide information to sub-contractors, clients and end users of our services to ensure that misuse will not be the cause of damage to the environment.

Responsibility for the implementation and maintenance of this statement and the accompanying environmental policy using the Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System (S.Q.E.M.S.) lies with me and the Management Team and my employees and is based upon a PLAN, DO, CHECK, REVIEW model of management.
The environmental policy will be brought to the attention of all employees at induction and via awareness sessions and will be made available to the general public via the company website; www.pandtcontracts.co.uk and reviewed annually to assess its effectiveness, compliance with environmental law, and to ensure that it reflects changing needs and circumstances.
Whilst recognising the fundamental responsibility of the company and its employees to protect the environment, particular attention will be paid to the following areas:

Waste Management – waste will be kept to a minimum, compatible with best trade practises. Only licensed waste contractors will be used to dispose of waste. Our sub-contractors shall be encouraged to apply the principals of this policy but shall be required to ensure they comply with the minimum relevant legislation. Our approved supplier procedure will monitor this aspect of our work.
Flora and Fauna in and around project locations.
Every effort shall be made to minimise the effects of the company activity on the flora and fauna within and around project sites. Specific tender stage checks shall be carried out to establish site specific conditions and the presence of any protected and or at risk species.
Recycling – whenever practicable, materials will be purchased from suppliers who obtain products from replaceable sources.
Noise, Dust - Releases to air, Light, Releases to water - will be suppressed, where practical, to ensure that no nuisance is caused to neighbouring establishments or the general public, and releases do not serve as pollutants.
Conservation of energy, water – We shall introduce and monitor efficient and economic use of energy in the form of heating and lighting and other electricity and gas consumption and use of vehicle fuels, with the objective of reducing the use of energy. We will use water efficiently.
Training – All employees shall be made aware of the objectives of this policy & the contribution expected from them. Employees with high risk tasks shall be trained in the environmental aspects associated with those tasks.
Legislative Compliance – regular environmental assessments shall be carried out to ensure compliance with legislation and the application of best available practice in environmental protection. We will use BSENISO14001 as the model for our environmental management system and this will form the scope for our certification.
Environmental Objectives and Targets Framework – will be set, monitored and reviewed to provide a management tool for my company to achieve the general aims set out in this policy statement and help achieve continuous improvement in our environment performance. An Impacts, and Aspects Register is set out as a key component of this framework that references procedures for current environmental controls such as energy and water use and targets for improvement such as recycling of maintenance wastes.
All employees are personally responsible for complying with this Environmental Policy and are encouraged to apply and suggest improvements to these objectives.
